    Hello Bali lovers!

We'll be in Bali in the last two weeks in October and are planning to spend a week in Candi Dasa as it's been recommended as a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Kuta.

We've been given the Natia Hotel in CD as a recommendation to stay at, but the reviews online aren't that great.

We're looking for something clean, nice, breaky avail and comfortable but not too luxurious for price.

    Any suggestions or recommendations?

    Thanks!

    :o)

    Hi
I am a big fan of CD and I recommend either Candi Beach Cottages which is a little out of town but very nice - Mendira beach, Sengkidu, Candi Dasa, Karangasem or Kubu which when I checked in April this year was looking a little neglected but still a great location in the middle of town. Watergardens is very good as well and I understand Bambu Pondok (which means little hotel) is very good as well.

Hippiechick's recommendations are good--Kubu Bali is perched on a hillside, great pool at the top, price range should be around US$45--US$70 depending on the bungalow and length of stay (BTW one week is a loooooong time to be in Candi!). Bargaining tip here--ask the price of the cheaper units (usually lower down) and apply that to the nicer ones. Watergarden also very nice, wide range of prices depending on the bungalow--they are less inclined to bargain there, and generally less friendly. Both these places have websites with artificially high rates. The seaside places are cheaper and generally speaking, will try very hard to get you to stay eg if you are looking for something around US$30/day.

Thanks ripeha and hippie chick - great tips!

Ripeha - from what you say of the cheaper seaside places...are they less desireable to stay in?

Jac, Watergarden and Kubu Bali (and also the Lotus down the road) are the priciest options in Candi. Watergarden is probably the nicest, though I havent stayed at Lotus (but several times at both WG and KB). The seaside places are fine, but generally you should keep in mind Candi is pretty run down; the last time I was there the last ATM machine was gone too, keep that in mind. The beach is gone, the road is really busy with truck traffic, and many shops/restaurants/hotels have failed. The place is pretty quiet (some would say dead) so you should be able to just go there and find something without booking ahead, especially end of October, which is the quiet season. Apologies to HC, I still think a week is a long time to be there, unless you have transport and intend to use it as a base for exploring east Bali (Ujung, Tirtaganga, Ahmed, White Sands Beach, Sidemen, Klungkung). Seaside places would be about 1/2 of what WG would charge for an aircon room.

thanks ripeha - and yes, planning to use it as a base to explore that area of Bali.

Wategardens looks great on their website - what should we offer them for the rooms? The internet prices start at $100USD!!!

    thanks - jacqui

    Hey Jac,

They have various room levels, the higher you go up the hillside the pricier. I'd say cheapest short-stay (2 nights) rate would be US65--75 for air-con, higher on the hill, say US$50 for fan lower down. They also negotiate over breakfast at US5 per person if memory serves, so try to get that thrown in. A week long stay would be big for them I think so keep that in mind though they don't seem to like negotiating. Let us know how it goes!

We have stayed in Rama Candidasa, , we have stayed 3 times.its a little out of town. On the main road going into Candidasa there is as fairly new Gas station. There is a small road next to it leading to the hotel/water. It is an excellent hotel, great rooms, beautiful pool and the food is outstanding and it has a new SPA facility.
Vincents in Candidasa is a great place to eat, and they will come out to the hotel to pick you up. There is an ATM at the gas station. We were at the Rama Candidasa March 2010. There are a few more new restaurants in town. Beautiful hotel. John

Not sure if ATM near petrol station is operational, even though they have the ATM sign there.

Here i sit in Candidasa on the verandah of our fav accommodation. It is called the Pondok Bambu, is right in the centre of town and unlike most other suggestions is right on the beach front. Visit their website and look at their levels of accommodation. They only have 12 units all up and Villa type 3 is unbeatable. Pool at your front steps, overlooking the ocean beyond that. Price is v reasonable and includes full cooked breakfast, juice, fruit etc. Air con, fans, hot water free wi fi and one of the cleanest places i've ever stayed in at this level of accommodation in Bali. Highly recommend it.
