I had a bad experience in October 2008 at the Raya Kuta Dental Clinic, Jl. Raya Tuban No. 62 Kuta – Bali which I wanted to warn others about. They have a scam where they talk you into teeth whitening and show you the before and after pictures and say it only takes 30 minutes and is worth the full $2.4 million rupees (about $400 Australian dollars). Actually the treatment does nothing, but then they push you to pay the full amount, saying it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work, you pay for a procedure not an outcome (using this twisted logic might also mean if you get into a taxi to take you to Ubud and it takes you to Legian you have to pay the full amount because you are paying for a procedure, the taxi ride, and not an outcome, which is arriving at the destination!). I asked to get a police officer or magistrate to attend to help resolve the matter, and they said they would ‘get one’. They returned 45 mins later with one person in uniform and three heavies, who threaten to arrest you if you do not pay. I paid under duress, and spoke with the consulate who advised that if you go and seek statements from the police etc they are likely to extort more money out of you. So this is a warning to anyone thinking you can save some money and get dental work done while in Bali. The hotel staff agreed it was a scam and said there is one good place in the Matahari which Australian guests speak positively about.

Sounds like you had a dreadful time!!!
My Husband had his teeth whitened last year at Dr. Sucipto's cosmetic Dentistry Clinic in Denpasar. They did a wonderful job, were very professional & clean, and provided a photo wallet of before and after photos. His teeth are still very white over a year later...
I have also heard wonderful reports of Dr Sucipto and Dr Rudi Salindeho at the Galleria - I am guessing that the popularity of denistry in Bali has also led to some dodgey dentists as well, thanks for the warning.
Hi Hippiechick, I went to Dr Rudy at the Galleria this year in June for a very large
(most of a back molar), filling.
Dr. Rudy was great, AND a quarter of the price here in melbourne.
Thanks for the heads up on the scamming dentist - I also use Dr Sucipto hes surgery is prob one of the best and most highly regarded on the Island with expats. I actually had my Teeth Whitened in Bangkok some 6-7 Years ago and they are still great.. Had i done them at Dr Suciptos practice i could have saved a few bucks. I'm sorry you had a Bad experience here in Bali but when you have some time one day i can tell you a story of a Scammer Dentist i went to on the Gold Coast. Its not nice where it happens but it does happen ........... My advise is no matter where you are in the world check out everything before you proceed with it. Dentistry here in Bali is top Notch as good as Any dentist i have been to in Australia and about 20% of the cost pretty good i say............
