Hi, what does the readership thnk of this new blog, operating post-Nick?

There are certainly fewer posters than before--I wonder what happened to them (and were they even real?).

    Hi Ripeha,

I can reassure you that the posts on the Baliblog were real!. I have known Nick for quite a while and even road-tripped around Bali with him.

As far as the Baliblog is concerned, be patient as things will be happening very soon. It will become better than ever.

    Hey Barrie,

Between you and me I had a few alter egos in the days of Nick's blog, which I used depending on what my rant of the day was...or if I was responding to Mr. Soprano's "views" if you recall those! I used RICH on that blog for most posts.

    Hi Ripeha,

Now I remember you well!. Hope you will continue supporting both Baliblog and the forum with your usual brilliant wit.

One nice change about this new blog has been the helpful responses to thoughtful questions (as opposed to rants about Schappelle Corby). Keep it up bloggers!

    Hi,
I am new to this forum and have read Nick's blogs for a long time. I am not a great blogger or forumite but have watched this new forum with interest. A couple of years ago, when I was going to Thailand, I was totally frustrated with Thorn Tree with trying to get an honest answer. I just want you all to know that from an outsiders point of view and someone who doesn't do this vary often, I appreciate your honesty and keep up the good work.
    Cheers

    Hi Tezza7,

Thank you for your honesty in evaluating this forum. As it's only in the infancy stage, so to speak, it will improve dramatically as will the Baliblog. Please continue with your input.

Those of you who have looked at Baliblog today will notice that I am now taking over from my old friend Nick. I look forward to your support and criticism, and although I have Nick's big shoes and reputation to live up to, I shall endeavor to do my utmost in achieving this.

    Hi to all,
I am enthusiatic about the blaiblog forum, people wanting to know about the real Bali, IE out of Kuta, are being acknowledged. I plan to be supportive and want this blog to continue. I am completely over the forumite thing, all the same sort of stuff - red cordiol, where to buy this and that yadda yadda - I implore our bloggers, share your cultural experiences to ensure the culture is alive and kicking.

    Hippiechick,

100% totally agree with you on this. It is great to see that this forum is dealing with matters other than bloody red cordial and 'how was your trip Gladys' type of posts that are seen on other forums.

It is good to see that people want to know about the real Bali, but, on the other hand, there are people that are new to going to the island and want to ask the basic Q's. That's great and we will accommodate your Q's on this happily.

And, YES, it would be tremendous if you would share your cultural experiences with us on this forum. I reckon between myself, Hippiechick and Ripeha we have about 90 years experience and knowledge of Bali!.

Well, if I go back to the first time dear old dad took me to Indo, I guess I am at 30 years too!! I still recall seeing a censored version of Godfather I in Jogya at the time....

I enjoy this blog and participating...but may pass on questions like "I am thinking of visiting Bali in 2009. Where should I go?" in favor of more interesting inquiries.....

    Cheers!

So nice to see ppl that actually appreciate & love the "real bali" not ranting & raving, jumping down ppl's throats when they ask a question because they just simply state an opinion they have. It annoy's the crap out of me ppl who think they know everything about Bali when they have never even ventured o/s of south of bali, or even more ppl that are married to balinese, indonesians & go to Bali for a holiday, but dont want to stay in the village, just chill down south doing the touristy things that they could do @ home, but still claim the know it all.. " cang deman gati nyong di kubune/desa'"

Lee my husband is Balinese & we USED to stay in the village (although he is from Tuban so not so villagey as such...)
But as our family has gone from 2-5 it's harder for us to fit into their place, but yes I ahve lived with them & bloody prefer i, but because we have outgrown the humble little house we do have to find somewhere else to stay...
We choose losmens/homestays as we dont want, like or need anything fancy!
We are helping them pay to renovate the house & so in a few years we wll have room to stay with them again... Please dont put us all in the same category!
