Island Of Bali, 1937, by Miguel Covarrubias. It`s a must read!

What are some other great books about Bali or Indonesia?

Is Eat, Pray, Love a good book? A good movie?

If you like Raiders Of The Lost Arc youll love West From Singapore by Louis Lamour.

    Happy Holidays

    Agreed, Covarrabias is a must.

Eat, Pray Love? an opportunistic piece of bullshit. Elizabeth Gilbert set this up with her publisher before she left the USA. It was a commercial exercise.

Want to get serious? Try the books by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Read about him.....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pramoedya_Ananta_Toer.

Take a trip to the Museum Neka in Ubud (far better than the hijacked Ubud wankery).

There's a photo gallery from the 1930's (photos of Mario dancing) from a collection by an American couple who had a hotel in Kuta before WW2. the wife wrote a book, I've forgotten the name, but it's mentioned at the gallery.

Movies? Try "The Year of Living Dangerously" and "Balibo" Maybe they were too close to the truth.....RI banned them.

the american couple were Robert and Louise Koke. the book, 'Our Hotel in Bali" written by Louise.

    some others....

Colin McPhee's 'A House in Bali"
    K'tut Tantri 'Revolt in Paradise'

All are available thru Amazon and others.

K'tut Tantri is well worth reading about. There's stacks online. She was born Muriel Walker in 1898 in Scotland, went to the US after WW1, then to Bali in 1932.
