    Hi Kenneth,

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I use my ATM cards frequently in Bali.

One scam doing the rounds is placing a bogus "helpline sticker" in an ATM then fiddling the access hole. When you can't retrieve your card the obvious thing to do is to call the scam number. Details such as confirming your card number, security number and password are requested. After you depart (without your card)it is then easy for funds to be skimmed by the scammer.Hint: check the slot before you shove your card in. A loop of fishing line or cassette tape is a giveaway.

Eagle I wish I had read your scam notice earler coz we got our card stuck and you get nervous and phone. Along came a guy on his bike and he helped us get the card out then get an advance. Later my card got cleaned out. Maybe he remembered my pin when I punched it in. Do you know of any other scams? Your article on real estate was a gem. What else you got for us

Sorry Al but I don't have a list of scams however, beware the pesky street or phone call offers of (booklets containing) prizes. No one ever seems to win; in fact what you generally win is the right to enter a competition once you get to the time share resort who the seller works for. Actually the resort gets you as the prize and the highly commissioned sales people are very clever in extracting your $$$ in exchange for limited annual accommodation. Apart from paying too much the main problems are availability of "your" apartment and being able to "swap" your week in a 4 star Bali hotel for a lodge in Chamonix! Some are happy with their time share arrangements most get done. Because of the bad repuation time share has it's now rebadged as "fractured ownership". My advice would be to ask yourself, would you enter into this sort of arrangement if you were home and not in glorious Bali?
