Has anyone done this/got info on the mechanics......how/where/cost?
This would be appreciated by those wanting to extend and seeking info

I've been unable to find this info online. it doesn't affect me, as I get a yearly multiple entry, but I'm sure there's people out there looking.

PLEASE can we keep posts to the specific topic, not comment on the wisdom/need/fairness/difficulty/stupidity/corruption/what's better......

HOW DO YOU EXTEND, WHERE DO YOU GO, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

On mine it is stamped by the immigration guys:

    *NON EXTENDABLE*
    *WORK PROHIBITED*
    ART 4(2), 50 ACT NO. 9/92 4A

I also haven't done this myself, however I have spoken to a tourist who has extended the VOA and this is the deal:

    1. It is only applicable on VOA issued after 26 January 2010. All visitors in Indonesia on an initial VOA will now meet that criteria, but there was some initial confusion in the cut-over period.

    2. You can go to imigrasi office outside the airport (I believe it is on the left as you are leaving the airport) or to the office in Denpasar. I have also read on Thorn Tree forum about someone successfully extending in Surabaya.

    3. Bring your passport and Rp 250,000. Your passport must have a page for the new visa, and you must have 6 months left on your passport.

I didn't ask her how long it took, but she said it wasn't a difficult process.

Can someone with a post-Jan. 26 VOA check it to see if there is the "no extension" stamp?

I hope extensions are possible but wonder if what happened above may be e.g. the experience of someone who overstayed and then had to pay a fine.

ripeha, the new rules came in in 26 Jan 2010, Imigrasi interpreted that to mean that it only applies to visas issued after that date. This person was not an overstayer paying a fine, she actually arranged the extension a few days early as she was off to the Gilis for a couple of weeks.

I will have to leave it to someone to check their visa to report back on the stamp situation. I would point out though that technically she didn't get an extension, she got a whole new visa. With an extension, do you normally get a whole new sticker in the passport?

ok, i think the pre january 26 thing can be dropped. it's more than 30 days ago.

can we confirm extension can be made at the imigrasi office at the airport? (point 2, post 3, bele)

most people plan their length of stay. if you're planning 30 - 60 days it would seem sensible to pass thru customs and imigrasi, then go straight to the outside office and buy the extension.

    can this be done?

(can we avoid the semantics of fines, definitions, extensions, new voa. just think of it as a piece of paper that lets you stay another 30 days.)

Googling this topic (with "2010" as a filter) produces a lot of results, including a useful report on the Lonely Planet blog from someone who got an extension recently at the airport, but had to wait 5 days to pick it up. My guess is, if you are planning 60 days, you'll have to take your chances on getting the extension, at least for the time being while this all gets sorted out.
