Is Bali that Busy?

I have been contacted by two separate families this week in regards to obtaining accommodation at a decent hotel in Bali. Apparently most of the 4 and 5 star hotels are booked out solid, some right through until mid next year.

Although I managed to get both families into good hotels in Nusa Dua and Sanur, it still has me wondering if Bali accommodation is at a premium right now. Is Bali that busy?

Anybody else finding it difficult to obtain accommodation at the times you would like to visit?

Australia is now by far the largest inbound market for Bali . Aussie arrivals in the 1st half of this year are up by over 50%. A travel guru told me that Perth alone has 72 flight per week to Denpasar and Strategic and Air Asia are increasing their sschedules to and from Australia. All these Aussies have to fit somewhere and the result is high occupancy across the complete raft of accommodation. Compared with recent years there are so many Aussies all over the island that Ubud is now Kuta in the Hills and have you noticed how many locals speak English with a broad ocker accent?

"Ubud = Kuta in the Hills" this is the most depressing comment I have heard/read in ages. I agree, unfortunately Ubud is flooded with buses, especially on the weekends with all sorts!!! It is impossible for locals (Iam one) to travel anywhere in comfort, the traffic is chaos. Most of the weekend crowd are only interested in going to the market, naughty nuris for ribs etc.. most of the cultural places are ignored by these weekenders, the statistics prove that the number of people going to the museums, art galleries and the dances, has not increased significantly; but the crowds have, wandering around in their bintang singlet tops and the women in unappropriate clothing!!!! ugh....

The Ubud we all knew and loved has changed, and not for the better.

For what it's worth today I was able to book Suji Bungalows in Kuta for early November without any trouble--of course that's the lowest of the low season. If I get the chance I'll post an update. Bali here I come!

I also was trying to find accommodation, we are arriving April 2011 and I was unable to book at my favorite Hotels in Tuban I am amazed at how far in advanced you need to be to get beach accommodation and the price ?. It does not put me off I just have to spend quite a few more hours at the computer to find the ideal family holidays.
