Hi - we are arriving in Bali in early December and plan to make our way around alot of the Island. The suggested route at this stage is :
Seminyak - Tanah Lot - Antosari - Pupuan - Mayong - Munduk - Singaraja - Tejakula - Amed - Tirtagangga - Ubud - Sanur
Does anyone have any suggestions of cheap places to stay for a family of 5 and places to go and things to do and see along the way. The children are all under 13 and very active and adventurous! We have been told not to hire your own car, but once we clear the Denpasar area - would this be a problem?
Hope to hear from you..

Hi Alex,
Will see what we can come up with re the route you have chosen, if you want to email us a budget we will see what we can come up with, although there are some areas we dont know much about. email me at ray@balidreamtours.com, cant see there being a problem with hiring a 4x4 if you are a confident driver, you will get to see what you want to see, and take the time you want, will certainly be more of an adventure for you and your family.
regards Ray

Alex, a big issue for an itinerary like that is time. If you've got a month or so, that looks fine. Two weeks, and you'd be on the road for a lot of it. Bali looks small, but the roads are small, windy, and if you get stuck behind a truck, the driving is slower than molasses. If you are at two weeks or so, I'd suggest sticking to east Bali, which can include Seminyak as a starting point, and Singaraja and, on a map, everything to the right of those places. If it's your first time in Bali, and time is at a premium, consider hiring a van and driver. The roads can also be confusing! You don't have to have the driver around every minute. Get to a destination, and tell him to come back in a couple of days. Or, if you don't like him, get someone else at that point.

Wise thought Ripeha and the way to go in my opinion. Better still, hire a jeep and drive yourself. This way you can stop when you want, see what you want etc.

Sounds like fun - Is this safe , affordable and easy enough to find rentals?

Alex, there are numerous places you will find jeeps for rent. Thee is a section on Baliblog that you will find useful and it has contacts etc. It is far cheaper than hiring a driver.Just make sure you take out insurance and check the vehicle for dents etc and tell the person you are renting from. Or you could take a foto of it!.
