Looking for home to rent - Kerobokan

Hi all - my husband and I are moving to Bali in June. I'll be working in Kerobokan so we're wanting to rent somewhere close-ish - anywhere between Umalas and Seminyak I guess? I've been told that places on the internet are generally overpriced, and after endless internet research it seems that there is very little under 15juta/month if you are paying by the month. Is this indicative of prices in the area? We don't need anything special - anything from 2 bedrooms up in a *somewhat* convenient area & preferably a nice garden.

We won't be committing to anything until we've had a chance to look around but it would be great to have a rough budget!

Really appreciate any advice you can offer.

You should also try [ www.baliadvertiser.biz ] and do a search there for rentals. It's try, many are directed for the holiday renter, but they do list long term rentals also.

This can be hard to do until you are in Bali. I recommend you find a reasonable priced hotel to stay in for a couple of weeks and then search the areas you want to rent. Often, people put notices up outside the home . Also if you see a place for sale don't be shy to see if the owner will rent. Also ask at local warung or kiosk as they often know of something in the area. Also bali advertiser if you sift through the holiday rentals.

    Hi Bele & PeterDaniel,

Thanks for replying, advice is appreciated :) I have already checked baliadvertiser.biz (every issue for the last 3) and have even booked a real estate wanted ad for the next issue. Like I said, we won't be committing until we've had a chance to look in Bali. What I was more interested in was the price factor - can someone tell me if 15juta/month is the minimum for a nice-ish (traditional) 2 bedroom place with a garden in this area or is that just the internet minimum? Are internet prices generally higher than those on the ground? I'm trying to get an idea so that when we start looking at places we know whether we are being outrageously ripped off or not... Thanks!

Sorry harimau, I would not ever look for a house in that area, so I can't help with prices. I do know that anything near Seminyak is very expensive. I heard that prices are over 100 juta per year for a basic house. If you live in an expensive area, expect to be hit up for more money by any service for extra, and by the banjar.
By comparison, I have friends living in Jimbaran who rent a modest 2 bedroom + maid quarters home, no A/C or pool for 40 juta per year. And of course, there are plenty of other places for even less than that, depending on location and style of house. To avoid the ridiculous prices you might want to consider elsewhere + car.

Have you tried a post on one of the busier Bali forums?

Thanks Bele - could you recommend a busier Bali forum? I would love to live somewhere else in Bali, my husband and I much prefer inland where it's greener and quieter, but travel to the office every day would become a nightmare. We could probably live at Canggu, but any further away and I'd be commuting more time than I am now. Do you know if there are any areas within 30 minutes drive of Kerobokan that are quieter and perhaps less expensive?

pinksocks it's may 2010. predicting prices for 2011 in an unspecified area, for an unknown time period....?????

google 'bali villas' and refine it with your preferred areas and dates.

don't rule out hotels. i've had some great deals where i've taken 2 adjoining rooms - 1 for sleeping, 1 as a living area.
