How can i find a sponsor? I have seen a few jobs on a few websites but i have the feling they wont be wanting to hire an Australian girl. Im not expecting to be paid western wages, just enough to live off. Im very experiance in retail and have been managing a liquor store for the past few years. Can anyone help me? my comments apply to both your posts.
you think you'd like to live and work in bali. join the queue. your chances of finding kosher work and sponsorship from oz are zilch.
my advice? you and your partner work your arses off, save enuff $ to live for 6 months, get a 6 month social visa and come to bali and hunt.
andrewbali spelled out the costs of hiring an expat in your other post. reverse the postion....would you expend this money for someone you haven't met/seen? also remember there are plenty of locals with skills equal or better than yours.
on a more general and not personal note. we bules have a certain arrogance. why should ri's immigrasi laws be less stringent than ours? why should we get preferential treatment because we are orang putih?

Hi Taryn
I have to agree with shorty's bad news on your dream of moving to Bali and getting a job there. It is very hard to do. Most expats living in Bali have business interests there which can take a significant capital outlay, and alot of experience in owning and running a successful business. The failure rate for westerners starting a business, or even a life, in Bali is very high.
You mentioned " Im not expecting to be paid western wages, just enough to live off" - are you aware that the locals lucky enough to have a job earn maybe 1 million per month for a full time job? That's only AUD125 per month - and I doubt you would be able to live off that, not to mention that the working visa alone costs more than that.
Bali is in a country with a very high unemployment rate and jobs are not easy to come by. The government is (rightly) very protective of employment opportunities. I know several people married to Indonesian partners who dream of being able to live in their partner's home country, but can't because they can't get a job or earn enough to have even a relatively simple life. In some cases they can't even live with their spouse because of the work situation.
Your best bet is to try the 6 month/6 month life. Work your butt off for 6 months at home, then relax in Bali for 6 months - and forget working there.
