To everyone traveling to Bali please be careful and do not touch the animals, my girlfriend passed away y/day she contracted rabies from a cat bite. This is not to scare you it is to keep you safe <3 <3 <3

I myself had a bite from a monkey some years ago and had to have the injections, I was the lucky one.

My friend was bitten by a clean but grumpy pregnant dog. He went to Graha Ashih Hospital on the bypass. Vaccine Rp420,000 but they were out of it. off to Kasih Ibu in Jimbaran. Cost around Rp2,380,000 I think. It is important to wash the wound thoroughly then get the injections. I believe there are no symptoms for at least 10 days but usually 1 - 2 months. if on holidays you need to see a doctor when you get home and get a note of what injections you have had and when. The last injection is normally 28 days after being bitten. My sympathies for your girlfriend; so unpleasant.

I'm sorry to hear this bad news.

Readers, buy travel insurance. I recently ran into some medical unpleasantness (outside Bali) and was fortunately covered for what could have otherwise been something expensive as well as unpleasant.

    Dear Kimbali,
I can only join all the other blog community to sincerely express my condolences for the loss of your girlfriend ( I am a cat and dog owner myself here in Bali so that definitely also gives me the boost to have now the cats also vaccinated against rabies. The dogs already are).
To all people who read this blog, please realize that all mammals can get rabies (hence not only cats and dogs but also monkeys, bats etc) and pass it along to humans so although I am not in favor of vaccinations most of the time, in this case the vaccination is definitely worth it as it is life-saving!
Eagle earlier mentioned the Kasih Ibu Hospital where she got the shot. This is actually where I work ( I am in their main hospital in Denpasar whereas there is also one in Jimbaran).
We always have stock of vaccination available.
Those who want to get a prevention vaccination need 2 shots (on day 0 and then on day 28).
Those who have been bitten need 3 shots: the first shot as soon as possible after the occurrence, then a second one on Day 7 and the third one on Day 21.
Currently the vaccination cost (prevention with two shots) amounts to Rp 1.301.000 for tourists whereas foreign residents ( on Kitas, social-cultural visa, Business visa, retirement visa) get a discount. The vaccination cost amount to Rp 734.130).
We have prepared with our doctors a concise documentation about rabies in English so anyone who wants to know more can contact me directly under the following email address and I will be very happy to send it to you and respond to any question you might have.
    My email address is: mireille.lefevre@kasihibuhospital.com
