Im trying to find out where to stay in bali. Im 22 and This is my first trip. Planning to stay for around 2 months. The "codeword" for my stay is CHEAP. I have taken early retirement, so you can figure out why.
I want to find a cheap Hostel or Guest House or even a cheap hotel. A hotel would be nicer actually. No matter what i choose it's a must that they have a fridge, since i have my medicin which needs to stay cooled. And Aircondition would be good.
I've been recommended the eastside of Bali, but i dont know exactly why. I don't want to be a place that is completely packed with other tourists. Althoug some tourists wornt do harm. There has to be good shopping opportunities in the area. Grocery and other. Im thinking that maybe i want to buy myself a camera and a laptop if i can get that at a good price. I also want to see the lokal markets of Bali.

Where i stay doesnt need to be that close to the beach.
Im really hoping to meet some other young people at my age, and maybe get a few new friendships. Im a non-drinker though.
So do you have any suggestion on where i could stay? A nice place.
And any recommendations for a good hostel or guest house?

I suggest you start with the usual guidebooks--Lonely Planet and Rough Guide are both good, I prefer the former because the format is a bit smaller and lighter. These books aren't that cheap but will easily pay for themselves especially over longer trip. They both have sections on budget accomodation and food--there are hundreds of options, and they may also answer "why east Bali"!

    Ya, Ripeha is right.
I just posted to someone lookeing for a home.
    My recommendations are the following...
    1. Talk to people! Seriously...just go into warungs and cell phone shops near the land you're interested in. Someone will know of something.
    2. baliadvertiser.com
    3. balifinds.com
    4. community boards at places like Bali Buddha both in Changgu and Ubud
    5. rumah123.com
    6. balibagus.com
    7. Post on these sites (often free) and on forums like this one listing your exact needs

    Hope this helps!
